‘Mother Memory’ Exhibition

You are invited to the opening cocktail of the artist Nicholas Panayi’s exhibition; Mother Memory on 14th of October at 19:00 at ARUCAD Art Space. The exhibition can be viewed until the 5th of November 2019 and it opens from Monday to Friday 13:30 -17:30, Saturday 10:00-13:30.

When Alzheimer strikes, life changes direction not only for the patient but for the whole family. The artist’s mother lived for 13 years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The process of gradual loss of memory and coordination of body functions including speech and mobility has deeply influenced the way the artist sees life and has a direct impact on his work.

These are some of the works presented by Nicholas Panayi who aims at illustrating the importance of preserving human contact through physical, emotional and spiritual means especially under difficult circumstances. It is a necessity for balance in society and to safeguard human dignity.

Artist biography

Nicholas Panayi was born in Nicosia in 1961. He studied at the renowned Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He founded his own art school and maintains his studio in the center of the old city of Nicosia. At the same time, he exhibits in Cyprus and abroad. Amongst others, he has received the second prize “Art Air 2005” in Geneva and was chosen to represent Cyprus in the Florence Biennale and the 2nd International Beijing Biennale in 2005. He exhibited at the UNESCO head quarters in Paris in 2007 and in 2018. In 2008 he represented Cyprus in the 11th International Cairo Biennale.
