 4th ARUCAD HIGH SCHOOL DESIGN COMPETITION

‘TIME TRAVEL’

Subject:

We have always dreamed of opening a wormhole in the fabric of space-time and being able to go through it whenever we want. How would you artistically evaluate and interpret this mathematically possible phenomenon?

As Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD), we are looking for an answer to this question through the eyes of young people, and we have organised the “TIME TRAVEL” competition, as a design competition, between high schools in order to reveal the creative perspectives of the young generation and to bring them new artistic visions.

Purpose:

While it is aimed that high school students show their creativity on a wide-ranging subject such as time travel through various disciplines, and see the context between producing ideas and works of art, it is aimed to encourage students’ interest in art.

General Conditions of Participation:

• Participation in the competition is free and on a voluntary basis.
• Every student who wishes to participate in the competition is obliged to fill in the parent permission form.
• Personal data obtained from the participants within the scope of the competition will not be shared with third parties, and will be completely deleted at the end of the competition evaluation and award distribution process.
• Works submitted without complying with the competition calendar will not be taken into consideration.
• Provided that students with disabilities report their disability, all necessary support will be provided by ARUCAD during the participation process,.
• Members of the Selection Committee and/or their first degree relatives may not participate in the competition.
• Participants are deemed to have accepted and committed to all provisions of the “Contest Specifications” and its annexes.

Conditions of Participation in the Contest:

• The designs must be original and suitable for the competition theme.
• In the preparation of their works, students may benefit from any of the visual arts disciplines they wish (painting, photography, video, digital painting, posters, comics, ceramics, sculpture).
• It will be sufficient for the student to take a photo of their work on any paper or surface and send it to competition@arucad.edu.tr e-mail address.
• If the work is prepared in the virtual environment, the design should be sent in jpeg., if video, mp4, if ceramic or sculpture, photographs should be taken and sent in jpeg format.
• Students may prepare their work on any paper, any surface, or in 3D installation of any size.
• Video content should be in 1080p or 720p resolution, and its duration should not exceed 1 minute.
• Participants may participate in the competition with a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 5 works with the works they have prepared in various
• Participation in the competition will be made by sending the works via e-mail to competition@arucad.edu.tr. In the e-mail, participants’ names, surnames, schools and contact details should be included with their work.
• Each participant may only submit one design. Participants shall accept, declare and undertake that the work they send to the competition is entirely their own, together with other matters for which the necessary permissions have been obtained. In the event that the designs submitted to the competition are found to be in violation of any article of this specification, the works in question will be excluded from the competition.
• Applications outside of the of scope and theme will not be taken into consider
• Works that are not original will not be considered.
• Only applications made between 1 February 2023 and 14 July 2023 will be considered.
• The rights of the works submitted to the competition must not reside in other persons, institutions or organizations.
• We are not responsible for any delays or any issues that may occur during the e-mail submission of the competition.
• The languages of the competition are Turkish and English (Turkish subtitles are required for English video content).
• The works will be sent to the competition@arucad.edu.tr e-mail address and stored on the university’s servers.
• Those who participate are deemed to have accepted these specifications.

Publication and Copyright of Works:

• Participants are deemed to have accepted and committed to all provisions of the Contest Specifications and Application Forms.
• The personal information of the participants will not be shared or reproduced without the consent of the person concerned.
• No commercial gain will be made through the printing and publication of the works. However, announcements to be made within the scope of ARUCAD competition activities, digital or printed materials to be prepared, social media posts, videos, etc. may use the copyright of the works.

• The participant accepts, declares and undertakes that the work sent to the competition is entirely their own. All kinds of legal responsibilities that may arise from the citation and / or theft of the works reside in the owner of the work.
• If it is understood that the awarded participants acted outside of the declarations and acceptances, the awards, titles and all kinds of gains they have obtained will be taken back.
• Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) is not responsible for any material or moral disputes that may arise between the owner of the work and third parties claiming rights.

Evaluation:

• Works participating in the competition will be evaluated by the members of the Selection Committee of Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design.
• The right to evaluate the originality of the works resides in the Selection Committee.
• If there is any change in the competition dates, the current dates will be announced on arucad.edu.tr or on the social media accounts of ARUCAD.
• Confidentiality is essential in the evaluation of the members of the Selection Committee.

Evaluation Criteria and Scoring

The matters to be considered in the evaluation of the selection committee are as follows;

1. THEME (30 Points); The design proposal is suitable for the relevant theme.
2. AUTHENTICITY (15 Points); The originality of the design proposal.
3. COMPATIBILITY OF THE DESIGN WITH THE USE OF MATERIAL (20 Points); The design proposal is suitable for the material used and its purpose in technical terms.
4. AESTHETICS (20 Points); The design proposal is aesthetically adequate; visual integrity, appeal, emotional appeal, etc.
5. TECHNICAL COMPETENCE (15 Points); The design proposal is in accordance with the application format specified in the specification.

          TOTAL 100 POINTS

Competition Results Announcement:

The results of the competition will be announced on arucad.edu.tr and official social media accounts.

Award Ceremony:

• The award ceremony will be held on July 14, 2023 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
• Prizes will be given in the form of a cheque.
