How we design is one of those mysterious questions that we couldn’t easily answer but we do our best to resolve it. First of all, we have elements of design available to us, without which we cannot develop, express, present and implement our design ideas. Lines, shapes, forms and colour are some of those key elements that we always use. Second, we have principles guiding us during design processes. These principles like scale, proportion, harmony, balance and so on are those providing us with certain frameworks that we take into consideration when we design. However, this does not mean that these are rules cast in stone. We, designers work with critical thinking methods, examine the status quo and constantly look for novelty and originality which may well go beyond the borders of design principles. Therefore, it is good to know what these design elements and principles are but it is much better to take them further with new ideas.
