İLET603 Media, Culture and Society (3-0)3
The relationship between media, culture and society has been a subject that thinkers working in different fields have been discussing for years. Does society affect media or does media affect society? Perhaps both are happening at the same time. What is culture? What do we mean by society in today's world? Is it possible to talk about a culture in the context of digitalization? What kind of relationship is there between societies, cultures and media tools that are changing with digitalization? In this course, while investigating the kind of relationships there are between media, culture and society, we will also discuss the definition of society that is changing with technology today. "Media, Culture, Society", The course aims to question how and in what ways our relationships with the media influence and shape our lives without isolating ourselves from the world we live in.

İLET602 Digital Sociology (3-0) 3
It is an undeniable fact that new digital technologies have a profound impact on daily life, social relations, government, commerce, economy and the production and dissemination of information. People's movements, purchasing habits and online communications with others can now be tracked in detail by digital technologies. This course aims to introduce sociology to the student with a specific focus on digital sociology. The course progresses by addressing the following themes related to the digitalization of society: power inequalities; democracy; surveillance; work, and participation. The interactions between digital communication, digital interaction, the internet, social media, and society are also among the focal points. İLET607 Consumer Society (3-0) 3
In Baudrillard's words, "in a consumer society where the distinction between real needs and fake needs has disappeared, the individual believes that buying and displaying consumer goods brings social privilege and prestige. Thus, a general logic of social differentiation emerges. The need is no longer a need for an object, but a need for differentiation. The consumer is directed to purchase the entire system of goods and services, not individual objects; in this process, while on the one hand he believes that he distinguishes himself from others socially, on the other hand he integrates with the consumer society. Therefore, consuming becomes a necessity for the individual. In this sense, consumption is not a free activity of the individual." Bockock, on the other hand, addresses why we consume, and what the psychological and cultural effects of consumption are. This course tries to bring a critical perspective to certain sociological approaches to the phenomenon of consumption in modern and postmodern societies. In doing so, the contributions of modern commentators such as Bourdieu and, Baudrillard in addition to classical writers such as Marx, Weber, and Simmel will be studied.

İLET609 Digital Games and Semiotics (3-0)3
Game design and semiotics are interconnected fields that play a key role in creating and understanding video games as a medium. As the game evolves, new symbols and signs may emerge.
