Atelier Arkın 2024 Hot Glass and Painting Student Exhibition Opens at ARUCAD Art Gallery

Atelier Arkın, which functions as the Lifelong Learning Centre of Arkın University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD), held the opening cocktail for its 11th Student Exhibition on the evening of Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the ARUCAD Art Gallery. The exhibition, which opened with a musical performance, features works by painting students as well as 15 different glass works from the Hot Glass Workshop.

The glass works were designed and produced entirely from recycled waste glass at the ARUCAD Glass Workshop by glass artist Mete Bahtiyar Karataş. These pieces, which highlight the eco-friendly aspect of glass art, were presented with an aesthetic and innovative approach to art lovers.

The painting works include pieces that started with pencil sketches and progressed to coloured artworks. These works demonstrate the development process of the students, and the exhibition is essentially viewed as a “Development Exhibition.” Tekin Can Göntürk led the painting courses, and during this process, two course participants earned the right to become students at ARUCAD.

In his opening speech, ARUCAD Vice Rector, Asst. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Dalkılıç, stated: “Lifelong learning begins at birth and continues until one’s final day. The knowledge and interactions gained during this process play a key role in social development. With this exhibition, we see that Atelier Arkın, established in ARUCAD’s early days, has the potential to be a cornerstone of artistic and social progress in Cyprus. The glass works on display, made entirely from recycled glass, are a significant symbol for a sustainable future and our diminishing resources.”

In speech, glass artist Mete Bahtiyar Karataş explained how he recycles glass, while Tekin Can Göntürk, who leads the painting courses, expressed his pride, saying, “It is a great honour to showcase our students’ works.”

Atelier Arkın continues to serve art enthusiasts with nearly 50 courses and workshops, offering a wide range of educational options to meet both individual and institutional training needs. The Hot Glass and Painting Student Exhibition will be open for visiting at the ARUCAD Art Gallery between 10:00-16:00 until October 11, 2024.
