The Founder of ARUCAD, Erbil Arkın, has restored and brought back to life as a piece of historical heritage, the second motorcycle belonging to Dr. Fazıl Küçük, with the number plate AF 838, which was used by police guards between 1960 and 1973.
Erbil Arkin restored the first motorcycle with the license plate AF 837 in 2019 and put it on display at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Museum, and reinvigorated history by modifying the second motorcycle, AF838, which was used by Küçük’s other police bodyguard. These two motorcycles used by the police bodyguards of Dr. Fazil Küçük, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot liberation struggle, between 1960 and 1973, have been preserved for our culture.
The second motorcycle was exhibited for the first time at the commemoration ceremony held in Anıttepe on January 15th to mark the 38th anniversary of Dr. Fazil Küçük’s death. President Ersin Tatar, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu, 2. President Mehmet Ali Talat, Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Ali M. Başçeri, KTBK Commander Major General Sezai Öztürk, GKK Commander Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu, CTP President Tufan Erhürman, ministers, lawmakers, military personnel, associations, societies, institutions and school representatives, students and members of Küçük’sfamily attended.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mehmet Kucuk, son of Dr. Fazil Küçük, presented a plaque thanking Erbil Arkın.
Erbil Arkın, stated that this endowment, made to preserve the memory of Fazil Küçük, was a great honour for him, adding, “I thank Cavit Öztürk, Tayfun Erdal, Münür Şonya and Emre Cellek, who worked to make this restoration happen”. Erbil Arkın, answered the people who asked why the colour of the motorcycle was blue, saying, “This was the colour of the motorcycle used by the police at that time. We are doing everything in this way because we want to complete a restoration that reflects the original.”
