Excellence Award to Prof. Dr. Haşim Altan from Elsevier

Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) Research Centre Director and Architecture Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Haşim Altan was awarded the 2021 Excellence Review Award by the Journal of Resources, Conservation and Recycling, owned by the international publishing house Elsevier.

Since 2017, Altan has been the adjudicator of articles submitted to the Journal of Resources, Conservation and Recycling belonging to the international publishing house Elsevier. Dr. Haşim Altan has received the Resources, Conservation & Recycling 2021 Excellence in Review Awards          given by the same journal and in appreciation of constructive review services.

Emphasising the transformation processes involved in the transition to sustainable production and consumption systems, the magazine covers the technological, economic, institutional and political aspects of strategies such as resource management, efficiency improvement, and restructuring of production and consumption profiles.

Altan received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Istanbul Technical University and his master’s and doctorate degrees in Architecture at Sheffield University. Prof. Dr. Altan has been working on green architecture and sustainability throughout his academic career. Altan, who is a faculty member of the ARUCAD Architecture Department, is also the Director of the Research Centre within the University. Altan who was delighted to receive the 2021 Excellence Review Award by the journal he has been adjudicating for several years, stated, “I am honoured to be deemed worthy of this award.”

Who is Prof. Dr. Haşim Altan?

He is a Professor of Sustainable Design and Architectural Engineering, a Chartered Architect (RIBA) and a Chartered Engineer (CIBSE) with over 20 years of academic and practice experience in the field of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) through the Built Environment in the UK, Europe, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions. Prof. Dr. Altan sits on several editorial boards and reviews project proposals for the European Commission, UK Research Councils, and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). Since 2004, he has, singly or jointly, secured and directed 32 research grants worth over £21 million. He is a founding member of the International Network on Zero Energy Mass Custom Home (ZEMCH), which has so far organised seven international conferences, several design workshops, and numerous technical visits. As well as having supervised 16 successful PhD students, Prof. Dr. Altan has published over 200 refereed journal and conference papers in related fields.
