The photography exhibition entitled “Sub:liminal,” featuring striking photographs taken by ARUCAD Vice Rector, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Dalkılıç in Pakistan, opened on Friday evening, October 25th at ARUCAD Art Space.
ARUCAD Art Space is hosting the photo exhibition ‘Sub:liminal,’ featuring photographs taken during Ibrahim Dalkılıç‘s journey to Pakistan, and which carry deep impressions of social and individual life. Curated by Oya Silbery, the exhibition reveals sociological and psychological elements captured by Dalkılıç’s lens, portraying both the surface view of a society and the emotional impact hidden beneath.
Themes of Social Isolation and Invisibility
The exhibition primarily features candid shots that explore the effects of factors such as social and political neglect, inadequate education, poor economic conditions, and cultural deterioration on individuals and communities. Dalkılıç‘s photographs delicately depict the process of individuals becoming invisible and society’s desensitisation to this invisibility.
People and Structures Trapped in Chaotic Motion
Dalkılıç‘s images, which viewers observe from a safe distance and which create an impression of ordinariness, reveal the natural empathy of people trapped among makeshift structures, motor vehicles, animals, confusing signs, and electrical cables. These elements vividly narrate how people are lost within the fast and relentless motion of daily life in Pakistan.
