‘Mr. Rabbit’s Doll’, A Co-Production of ARUCAD Is at the 13th Stop Motion Montreal Film Festival!

ARUCAD Visual Communication and Design Department Lecturer, Arvin Medghalchi’s short animated film “MR. RABBIT’S DOLL” will compete in the Independent Films category at the 13th Stop Motion Montreal Film Festival to be held in Canada.

Iranian director and illustrator Medghalchi’s short film will make its world premiere at the Film Festival, to be held in Canada between September 10-19. This festival is also known for being the only film festival in the world that only includes films shot in the stop motion technique.

Arvin Medghalchi, who has more than 15 years of experience in independent animation film directing, was most recently awarded the Best Animation award at the Asian Peace Film Festival in 2017 for his movie “In Mediterranean Arms”. Medghalchi, one of ARUCAD’s artist academics, is known for his stop-motion animations which have received several awards at international film festivals. Medghalchi also created a short animated film called ‘CORONUS’ during the pandemic period.

“MR. RABBIT’S DOLL” was co-written with Tanya Gürel and inspired by a story from the world-famous Iranian writer Sadik Hidayet. More than 10,000 frames were used in the animated short film, which uses handmade puppets made from latex and clay. The entire movie was shot at ARUCAD’s Animation Studio. The film, with a run time of 12 minutes, is in the style of a dramatic thriller and deals with individual relationships through the themes of loneliness and lack of self-confidence.

The creative staff of the film, which Medghalchi began in partnership with ARUCAD in 2019, includes ARUCAD Film Design and Management Department lecturer Ali Azhari as cinematographer, Arkın Innovation Hub art specialist Batu Gündal as sound artist, and ARUCAD Architecture Department Head Dr. Cem Yardımcı and students of the university who worked on the urban modelling.
