The works of the world-famous French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), known as the pioneer of modern sculpture, are on display at the Antalya Culture and Art Exhibition Centre (AKS). The exhibition titled “Rodin, the Sculptor of Passion – A Selection from the Private Collection of Erbil Arkın” are on display between 13 April – 17 July 2022.
On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the founding of the Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Arkın Creative Arts and Design University (ARUCAD) in Girne, in cooperation withThe Arkın Rodin Collection Gallery and with the support of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the exhibition will feature 22 works compiled from the private collection of Cypriot businessperson, Erbil Arkın.
With the Rodin exhibition, Antalya Culture and Arts, which began its activities with a world-famous Picasso exhibition in 2015 and which hosted Andy Warhol in 2016, is happy to bring together another world-class artist for Antalya art lovers.
The exhibition, which is of particular importance as it is the second Rodin exhibition to come to Turkey following the “The Great Master of Sculpture Rodin in Istanbul” exhibition at the Sabancı Museum in 2006, features 22 iconic works such as Kiss, Eternal Spring, The Falling Man, and Eve.
As part of the exhibition, a talk will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with the participation of collector Erbil Arkın and exhibition curator Oya Silbery. The talk, moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Nalan Sülün, will focus on Rodin’s transformative identity in sculpture, Erbil Arkın’s interest in fine arts and his own passion for Rodin’s art which has seen him turn into “the largest Rodin Collector in the Eastern Mediterranean” as well as describing the story of the founding of Arkın Creative Arts and Design University.
At the AKS Children’s Learning Workshops, which will be held in parallel with the exhibition, the first of which will take place Saturday, April 16, children from different age groups will have the opportunity to get to know Auguste Rodin, the great master of modern sculpture, to create colourful sculptures and be a part of an fun artistic experience. In the “Masters of Sculpture – The Worlds of Masters” seminar, which will be held for adults starting on May 12, 2022, the art of sculpture from the Renaissance to the present will be conveyed through the works of the great masters of this art. In the seminar, which will be conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Nalan Sülün, the development of sculpture over time will be told through Michelangelo, Giacometti, Picasso, İlhan Koman and other contemporary artists who have left their mark on sculpture.
The exhibition, “Rodin, the Sculptor of Passion – A Selection from the Private Collection of Erbil Arkın” will take the audience on a journey through ancient myths, while carrying Rodin’s deep-rooted sculptural tradition of European art from the romanticism of the 19th century to the great artistic adventure of the 20th century and the modern age. It can be visited until July 2022.
Antalya Culture and Arts is open Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday from 11:00 to 19:00, from 13:00 to 21:00 on Thursdays and from 13:00 to 19:00 on Sundays.
