The second part of the exhibition, ‘RIVERS IN THE OCEAN,’ composed of multimedia works by Alev Adil and Aslı Bolayır, opens at ARUCAD Art Space in Nicosia. The theme addressed in the exhibition, concurrently held at Korai Project Space, consists of two different variations that are parallel and complementary works, forming a unique selection presented in two different spaces simultaneously during the same period.
Curated by Esra Plümer Bardak, the first part of the exhibition opened on February 9th at Korai Project Space and received significant attention. The second part of the exhibition will open on Friday, February 16th, at 18:00 at ARUCAD Art Space in Nicosia. The closing event for the exhibition, which is on display until March, features a book of texts by artists Alev Adil, Aslı Bolayır, and Curator Esra Plümer Bardak. The book is edited by Art Space Director Oya Silbery and published by ARUCAD Press.
In her curatorial text, Esra Plümer Bardak describes the exhibition as follows:
The title ‘RIVERS IN THE OCEAN’ playfully refers to the contrast and inseparable connection between global issues and localities, serving as a starting point to address the ontological and metaphysical aspects of water currents, as well as the abilities and inadequacies of individuals in dealing with contemporary life. The highlighted works here observe the physical/psychological, natural/synthetic, and systemic structures that form, guide, and sometimes destroy the foundations of human experiences.
The exhibitions are grounded in the artists’ collaborative works and their individual reflections on the concept of Amor Fati [the love of one’s fate]. Expanding on Friedrich Nietzsche’s discussion of Amor Fati as the act of confronting one’s own destiny, Alev Adil and Aslı Bolayır, in a broader sense, explore the ‘acceptance of our fate’ by delving into situations and experiences where alternative spaces and identities emerge, relating people’s disoriented closeness to nature and the natural movements, currents, and changes in life to narratives surrounding destiny.
The opening of the exhibition ‘RIVERS IN THE OCEAN’ will take place at ARUCAD Art Space on Friday, February 16th, from 18:00 to 21:00, with the participation of the artists.
