Mr. Rabbit’s Doll’, directed by Arkın Creative Arts and Design University (ARUCAD) Visual Communication Design Department Lecturer, Arvin Medghalchi, was awarded the Grand Prize at the 9th International Berlin Art Film Festival. The short animated film won the Grand Prize at the Berlin International Art Film Festival, held for two years to promote independent cinema and discover producers and their films.

Shot in ‘stop motion’ – a technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back.

Mr. Rabbit’s Doll is based on a story by the world-famous Iranian writer Sadik Hidayet. The film, consisting of over 10,000 photographic frames and made using latex and clay figures, had previously participated in, and received several awards at film festivals.

The 12-minute-long animated short deals with the themes of loneliness and lack of self-confidence through individual relationships . Iranian director and illustrator Arvin Medghalchi, with more than 15 years of experience in independent animation films, is known for his stop-motion animations, which have been shown and awarded prizes at international film festivals. At the Asian Peace Film Festival, held in 2017, he won the Best Animation Award for his movie “In Mediterranean Arms”. Medghalchi, one of ARUCAD’s artist academics, has participated in several international festivals with his films and award-winning productions, such as ‘Kitchen Dreams’ and ‘Coronus’.
