Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) Acting Department hosted a webinar titled “On-Camera Acting and Comedy”, welcoming director Ömer Sinir (TV series, film, and commercials) to meet with students. The session was held in Turkish and moderated by Sen. Ins. Şafak Ersözlü.
During the talk, Sinir reflected on his professional journey, the transformation of production practices, and how on-camera performance intersects with comedic tone. He emphasised that filmmaking requires not only technical skills, but also interdisciplinary knowledge and strong communication—adding that the industry has not necessarily become easier, but rather faster.
The webinar also covered practical insights on team dynamics, managing energy on set, building an “absurd” comedic texture, and creating small disruptions that strengthen a sense of realism. In the Q&A, students asked about directing vs acting, differences between auditions for commercials and series, and approaches to creating situational comedy.
Summing up his perspective, Sinir noted: “This work is not just about knowing cameras or acting—it’s about communication and being fluent across disciplines. A set is not something you simply clock out from; your name is on it. The industry hasn’t become cheaper, but it has become faster—we now have phones and AI tools that give us information quickly, yet it’s easy to get lost without a real personal drive.”
He also underlined that professionalism and human relationships can be decisive in auditions: “From the moment you walk in, people remember how you behave—no one wants to create a monster on set.”
The webinar was live-streamed via ARUCAD’s digital channels. Those who wish to watch the event again can access the broadcast on ARUCAD’s YouTube channel:
