Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) Department of Architecture hosted the workshop “Life Safety in Architecture: Applying Building Codes in Design” on May 13, 2026.
The workshop focused on the role of building codes and safety regulations within architectural design processes. Throughout the session, participants explored how life safety principles can be integrated into design practices through regulatory frameworks, technical standards, and spatial planning strategies.
The event featured Prof. Dr. Müjdem Vural as the guest speaker, highlighting the importance of building codes in creating safe, functional, and sustainable architectural environments. Participants examined how safety criteria in architectural design extend beyond technical requirements and play a crucial role in user experience and public responsibility.
Examples and current approaches related to fire safety, accessibility, user circulation, and spatial organisation were shared during the workshop. Discussions on how building regulations influence design decisions contributed to students’ awareness of professional architectural practice.
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session.
