“Audio Recording and Community Participation in the Colombian Amazon” Webinar Held at ARUCAD

The webinar titled “Audio Recording and Community Participation in the Colombian Amazon” was held on 15 December 2025 as part of the ARUCAD Department of Sound Arts Design, with the participation of Asst. Prof. Dr. Juan Castrillón. The session was streamed live via ARUCAD’s digital platforms. Drawing on his fieldwork in the Colombian Amazon, Castrillón approached audio recording not merely as a technical process, but as a practice deeply connected to communal life, collective creation, and cultural documentation. He emphasized that musical production is often shaped through shared experiences and community-based practices rather than individual authorship. The webinar explored listening cultures, media archives, healing arts, and collaborative creative processes developed with local communities. Castrillón highlighted how community participation influences both the content and trajectory of sound recordings, underlining the ethical and contextual dimensions of recording practices. The webinar offered students an opportunity to reflect on sound recording through research, collaboration, and social context. The session can be accessed via the following link:
