Department of Contemporary Dance Seminar on Preventive and Restorative Physiotherapy Held at ARUCAD

The “Strong Yet Fragile: Working with the Dancer’s Body – Preventive and Restorative Physiotherapy” seminar, organized by the Department of Contemporary Dance at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD), was held on 26 December 2025. The seminar was led by specialist physiotherapist and academic Münevver Özakalın and moderated by Sen. Ins. Yıldız Güventürk.   Focusing on the protection, strengthening, and long-term sustainability of the dancer’s body, the seminar addressed key topics such as injury prevention, body awareness, physical strengthening, and recovery processes. Özakalın approached the dancer’s body from a holistic physiotherapy perspective, emphasizing the importance of preventive and restorative practices in maintaining both performance quality and physical well-being.   During the seminar, participants were introduced to physiotherapy-based methods aimed at reducing dance- and sports-related injuries while enhancing bodily awareness and resilience. Through theoretical explanations and practical insights, the session provided students with a comprehensive framework for understanding the physical demands placed on dancers and the strategies that support sustainable movement practices.   The seminar offered Contemporary Dance students valuable knowledge on caring for the body as both an expressive and physical instrument, reinforcing the role of physiotherapy in long-term artistic practice.
