Prof. Dr. Aydın Teker is one of the pioneering choreographers of contemporary dance, known for her bold and original voice. She graduated from the Ballet Department of Ankara State Conservatory in 1973 and continued her studies abroad with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in choreography and modern dance at New York University, later playing a leading role in establishing the academic foundation of Contemporary Dance at Istanbul State Conservatory.
Supported by a Fulbright Research Grant, she conducted research on somatic theories in New York. Her work “Yoğunluk” (“Intensity”) received a special award at the 22nd Zurich Theaterspektakel. Her pieces “aKabı” and “harS” were featured internationally, and “Hallo” was dedicated to her daughter, Çağrı Teker. Prof. Dr. Aydın Teker retired from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2015 and continues her creative work in Ayvalık.
