In this seminar, Yaşar Ersoy examines the Turkish Cypriot theatre movement and the Nicosia Municipal Theatre within the context of social and political developments. Through a historical perspective, the session traces the formation of collective theatre practices in Cyprus and discusses their relationship with cultural resistance, public space, and institutional structures.
Yaşar Ersoy is a theatre writer, director, and actor born in Limassol, Cyprus. After graduating from the Ankara State Conservatory Theatre Department, he worked at the Turkish Cypriot State Theatre before co-founding the Nicosia Municipal Theatre in 1980. He has served as its Artistic Director since its establishment and has staged over forty plays while performing in more than fifty productions.
