The Contemporary Dance Department at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design hosted a series of workshops titled “Sculpting Space Through Body,” led by one of the prominent figures in contemporary dance, Prof. Aydın Teker. Having served as the Head of the Modern Dance Department at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University until 2015, Prof. Teker conducted three workshops at ARUCAD, bringing her extensive experience to students.
The workshops focused on the relationship between movement and space, offering participants the opportunity to experience the body not only as a means of expression, but as an active force that transforms space. Throughout the sessions, the body–space relationship was explored through physical expression, awareness, and collective production processes.
As part of the workshops, students engaged in experimental practices that redefined and transformed space through movement. Supported by both individual and group work, the sessions enabled participants to develop body awareness while rethinking their interaction with space.
This practice-based workshop series encouraged students to approach contemporary dance from a new perspective, while also fostering interdisciplinary thinking and creative production. Shaped by Prof. Aydın Teker’s experience and methodology, the workshops provided participants with a rich artistic and intellectual learning experience.
