Public Broadcasting Seminar with Halil Davulcu Held at ARUCAD

As part of a seminar organized by the Department of New Media and Communication at Arkın University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD), experienced TV producer and director Halil Davulcu met with students to engage in an in-depth discussion on the core principles of public broadcasting. The seminar was moderated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Huri Yontucu.

The session focused on the principles of social responsibility that must be observed when producing content for public institutions. Davulcu emphasized that a program producer or host must always act with the public interest and viewer rights in mind. Highlighting the rise of citizen journalism, he also addressed the ethical boundaries it entails. Using concrete examples, he explained how journalistic ethics come into play in sensitive situations—such as the angle from which a traffic accident is filmed and presented.

Davulcu also spoke about key aspects to consider during the program production process. He stressed the importance of clearly introducing oneself to guests when inviting them to a program and of communicating the topic and duration transparently. He underlined how essential it is for the host to conduct thorough research beforehand, structure relevant questions, and maintain eye contact with the guest during the show. Furthermore, he noted that a host should maintain equal distance from all guests and adopt a constructive and critical stance, which he described as fundamental to ethical broadcasting.

The seminar offered students a valuable opportunity to explore public broadcasting from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
