Technical Visit by ARUCAD Ceramics Department: “Traces of Antiquity: Cyprus Bronze Age Art”

The Ceramics Department at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) organised a technical visit titled “Traces of Antiquity: Cyprus Bronze Age Art” on May 7, 2026. The visit brought together Ceramics students and alumni, as well as students from the Department of Plastic Arts.

Held at the Cyprus Bronze Age Art Ceramics Workshop in Dikmen, the visit provided participants with the opportunity to observe production processes on-site and gain hands-on experience. Key stages such as clay preparation, mould shaping, firing, surface treatments, polishing, and product preparation for sale were examined in detail.

Throughout the visit, students actively engaged with each stage of the production process. The relationship between traditional techniques and contemporary design approaches was explored, highlighting that ceramic production is not only an artistic practice but also a professional and economic field.

Cyprus Bronze Age Art Director Mehmet Piro demonstrated the production processes both practically and verbally, guiding participants through each step from raw material to final product. He also shared insights on the foundation of the workshop, sales operations in Northern Cyprus and Southern Cyprus, business networking strategies, and the marketing of ceramic products. Participants further had the chance to observe current approaches to ceramic marketing in the showroom area.

With a total of 12 participants, the visit successfully brought together academic knowledge and industry experience while strengthening interdisciplinary interaction. The activity contributed to students’ professional development by reinforcing theoretical knowledge through practical application.
