Architectural Survey and Documentation Study Conducted in Karmi Conservation Area

As part of the ARCH/INAD 262 “Fundamentals of Conservation and Restoration” course offered within the Departments of Architecture and Interior Architecture & Environmental Design at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design, a comprehensive architectural survey and documentation study was carried out in the Karmi Conservation Area on 30th April and 7th May 2026.

The fieldwork was organized under the coordination of Asst. Prof. Dr. Aliye Menteş Yardımcı and aimed to provide students with practical experience in the fields of architectural conservation, restoration, and heritage documentation. During the study, students conducted architectural measurements, survey drawings, and on-site documentation of selected historic buildings located within the conservation area.

The study was realized through the valuable cooperation established between ARUCAD, the Tourism Planning Department, and the Karaman Village Committee. This collaboration contributed significantly to facilitating the field studies and strengthening the shared commitment toward the preservation and documentation of Cyprus’s cultural and architectural heritage.

The initiative formed part of the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen applied education in cultural heritage preservation and to enhance students’ understanding of traditional architectural values through direct field experience. The project also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between academic institutions, public authorities, and local communities in safeguarding historic environments for future generations.
