A Meaningful Mural from ARUCAD to the Kyrenia Fire Department

The mural created at the Kyrenia Fire Department building by artist Batu Gündal, a lecturer at the Faculty of Art at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD), together with his students, makes visible through art the courage, selflessness, and vital role firefighters undertake for society.

Created in collaboration with the Kyrenia Fire Department, the mural presents the difficult duties of firefighters through a powerful visual narrative. The depiction of a firefighter rescuing a child from the flames, along with scenes of teams responding to fires, symbolically reflects firefighters’ life-saving interventions and their critical role in society.

The mural also includes an emblem representing the “Champion Angels,” who lost their lives in the February 6 Hatay earthquake and left a deep mark on the memory of the people of Cyprus. This symbol aims both to preserve the memory of the children who were lost and to make solidarity and collective memory visible through art.

This work, carried out by Batu Gündal and his students from the ARUCAD Faculty of Art, has taken its place as a permanent artwork at the Kyrenia Fire Department building, serving as a powerful example of art meeting public space.
