PHVD 102 Advanced Photography

Advanced Photography is a course intended to have more advanced technical skills after Basic Photography class. This course is based on the development of knowledge and skills in photography editing. Besides the settings such as colour, tone and contrast, filtering and effect techniques will also be taught.

PLAS 104 Basic Arts Education II (pre-requisite PLAS 103)

Basic art education aims to understand and experience plastic values on the basis of application. The course, which includes theoretical and technical knowledge on the use of texture, size/volume and material, trains students on field experience before moving on to the stage of creative production. The students learn all the basic concepts of art while continuing their aesthetic search of textures, structures and masses.

PHVD 104 Contemporary Photography of Art

The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the technological changes in photography of art and tendencies in contemporary trends as well as comprehend ways of presenting them. In this manner, students will be able to recognise the different tendencies that they may be interested in, communicate with them, and thus position themselves within the contemporary art environment.

ARTE 101 History of Art I

History of Art I is a fundamental course following the tracks of the artistic development from prehistorical era to 19th Century in chronological order. The study of the works of art from relevant periods includes various inter-period comparisons in terms of political construct, economic-technological developments, and religion.

SOFL 102 Academic English II (pre-requisite SOFL 101)

PHVD 201 Fictional Photography

This course is an introduction to pre-shooting editing and post-shooting collage techniques in terms of innovative photography. The course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the basic concepts and techniques to be used in the fictional production.

PHVD 207 Video Installation Techniques

In this course, students will learn video shooting techniques. They will discover the use of manual lenses for video capture in addition to the features of different cameras for video capture, the use of light and other video equipment is also covered in the course.

ARTE 203 History of Art II (pre-requisite ARTE 101)

The course aims to convey to students a general cultural knowledge that is related to the arts. Students are taught how the artistic production changes according to the cultural processes that represent civilizations through a survey of the Early Renaissance to the High Renaissance and various moments and movements leading up to Modern Art. At the same time, the importance art historical knowledge in the field of art and design is emphasized.

DART 102 Digital Media Studio

This studio based course introduces Digital Media as a field of contemporary art practices in a professional way leading the students to get ready and experience the work projects and needs of various clients. In this course students will apply design thinking to the design process by developing interactive, motion design, time-based and/or sonic digital media projects. They will apply their accumulated knowledge and skills within the context of a production studio that responds to client needs. Artistic voice will be emphasized over technical skills.

AIIT 201 Ataturk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution I

Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution; telling students how to establish the circumstances under which the Republic of Turkey, Atatürk's principles which form the basis state to adopt; Atatürk's military personality is described as a great statesman, revolutionary personality and leadership, nationalism rejecting racism, and efforts to establish international peace. It is explained today by the case studies that the principles of his transfer to the field of application are not only the Turkish nation but the whole humanity more than ever.

TUDI 201 Turkish I
To be able to comprehend properly the structure and functioning characteristics of each mother tongue who attends higher education. To gain the ability to use Turkic language correctly and beautifully as a means of writing and oral expression in terms of language-thinking connection. It is to train young people who have a mother tongue consciousness to make a unifying and integral language in teaching.

PHVD 208 Video Editing Techniques

In this course, the relationship between editing and visual language will be examined. This course focuses on the development of spot-shaped moving images such as videoart, advertising film and social sensitivity film.
PHVD 210 Documentary Photography

In Documentary Photography class is designed to reach research and documentation methods. In addition, the students will encounter with a wide range of process of how visual memory creation could be formed in social-cultural area.

ARTE 204 Aesthetics / Philosophy of Art

Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art is an important subject that all training art students need to gain intellectual experience in. The aim of this course is to make students aware that it is impossible for the working artist to be deprived of philosophy, which will be demonstrated through looking at the philosophical journey of artistic thought starting from the Greek aesthetic to the present. The philosophy of art in relation to various thinkers from different periods will be examined in chronological order.

PHVD 202 Studio Photography

This course includes a training for recognition and use of equipment about Studio shots. The student will gain technical knowledge of flash and projector usage, light measurement rules. This will provide the students the ability to take all kinds of photographs in the studio.

The student is ready to produce in line with his/her own creative tendencies after having sufficient technical and aesthetic adequecy in the field of photography. In this course, the student lerans to determine their own line and develops their own skills.

PHVD 303 Video Art I

In the Video Art course, the student works on a concept and develop a project towards an artistic product. Students who learned how to use video as a medium in an artistic language develops their editing and representation skills here. In this course, the quest for creating an original visual language and technical skill are in the foreground.

PHVD 305 Presentation Techniques on Photography

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of visual language and the techniques of storytelling. This course requires the knowledge of video editing techniques. Thematic focus and photo emulation form are the axis of the course.

PHVD 333 Portrait Photography

This course aims to make students aware that the portrait photography to be considered an art form which involves capturing facial expressions, personality, or mood of your subject or group using composition, lighting, and backgrounds in a manner to be taken as an artistic representation of a subject’s attitude.

This course will provide the information about photography techniques that will help the students to understand the specifics of a fashion shooting, covering in outdoor and indoor spaces. In this course, students will be able to experience variety of aspects in the fashion field.

PHVD 348 Constructing Creative Contemporary Approaches I

This course aims to develop the analytical skills of particular relationship between art philosophy and artistic expressions in the examination of processes of creative production in its constructs.

PHVD 403 Internship

The internship is carried out in an institution where photo studies are conducted and experience is obtained in such a way as to contribute to the learning process. The aim is to reinforce and extend student’s education beyond the classroom and gain real-world experience that might lead to a career

PHVD 401 Product Photography

This course focuses on the technical and aesthetic aspects of product photography within the orientation of advertising. The issues introduced here will be taken into consideration where the photography will be used in an advertising. The aim of the course is to teach the students how to frame in terms typography and edit the composition according to it.

PLAS 403 Art Management and Curating

The module aims at giving an introduction of curatorial practices as well exposing various formal and conceptual issues within the field of contemporary curatorial issues. This covers the various working processes of curating and identifies curatorial experimentations in order to address an overview of the history of exhibitions as well as the on-going in contemporary curatorial practices.

PHVD 404 Graduation Project (pre-requisite PHVD 403)

The student continues his/her studies under the guidance of personal project advisors whom specialised within creative and practical areas of expertise in the topic he/she has chosen for the graduation project. At this stage, the student takes advantage of the physical facilities of the Department as required by the project and gets advice from the advisors. The evaluation will be through an oral defence in front of a jury by the end of the semester. The aim is to prepare the student for professional life.

PHVD 203 Macro Photography

Macro Photography class investigates close up objects and surfaces shooting. In addition, the course will allow the students to explore how to capture macro images by which the type of light and equipment. The issues such as organic or artificial tissues, small organic beings and abstract composition form the content of the course.

PHVD 332 Analog Photography
Analog Photography is a course that reveals the character of people by doing portrait work with indoor and outdoor shots. The main objective of the course is to draw open portraits for a personality analysis by associating objects with clothes and space.

PHVD 347 Architectural Photography
Architectural Photography, which is one of the special areas, is performing in a way to convey the visual character and identity of spaces and buildings. In this course, students will learn how to use perspective and light in a balanced way by using definition and highlighting methods.

PHVD 327 Light and Colour in Photography
Light and Colour in Photography class will provide an understanding the colour of light and the characteristics of light as this is fundamental to the craft of photography.
One of the outcome of this course is to contribute to improve student’s technical skills.

PHVD 444 Video Installation
The Video Installation class will be conducted on the studies of multiple video presentations and space-related video placement. The studies will be carried out depending on a designated place based on a concept that will be taking into consideration within the relational aesthetic contextualisation.

PHVD 457 Underwater Photography
Underwater Photography is thought to be more efficient in the application of the coastal city of Famagusta. In this course, the students will be able to learn about the nature of underwater photography and the concept of sunken photography, so the students will be able to open an additional door in their own profession. Artistic and documentary kind of skills will be taught.
