Architecture

The purpose of establishing ARUCAD Doctor of Architecture (PhD) programme is to cultivate competent and contemporary scholars who are capable of producing creative solutions to rapidly increasing global problems (e.g., urbanisation and global climate change), to conduct scientific research based on architectural theory and practice, to generate knowledge, to think critically, and to become proficient in their field.

In this context, the fundamental mission of the ARUCAD Doctor of Architecture Programme is to conduct scientific and theoretical research on current and innovative architectural topics (e.g., climate-sensitive architecture, theory and criticism, conservation and cultural heritage, earthquake-resistant structures and construction technology, and urban and architectural design), to produce scientific knowledge, and to train competent researchers and/or scientists who can utilise current technologies, methods, and approaches in their field.

In other words, the ARUCAD Doctor of Architecture Programme aims to contribute to the production of knowledge in the field of architecture, the creation of new models and inventions, and the training of scientists who can solve complex design problems with critical thinking skills. In this context, the Doctor of Architecture Programme is a research-oriented programme, with its primary research areas being design, planning, theory and criticism, design technologies and computing, and conservation. The main distinguishing features of the ARUCAD Doctoral programme are its up-to-date international curriculum, international academic staff, interdisciplinary educational approach, studios, laboratories, and libraries equipped with modern technologies necessary for research and development, and strong collaborations with a number of national and international universities.

With these features, the ARUCAD Doctor of Architecture Programme has taken on the role of being at the centre of scientific studies and developments in architectural design and related contemporary academic topics. The language of instruction in the ARUCAD Doctor of Architecture Programme is English. The duration of the programme is four years.

CAREER

Graduates who successfully complete the ARUCAD Doctor of Architecture Programme are able to work as academics and teach at national and international universities in departments related to Architecture or related disciplines (e.g., Interior Architecture and Urban Design), and actively continue their original academic work. They can also actively participate in projects carried out by international (e.g., United Nations and European Union) and national organisations as experts or consultants.
