ARUCAD English Preparatory School Hosts International Conference Focused on Sustainable and Innovative Education

The international conference titled "Innovating Education Through Sustainability," organized by the ARUCAD English Preparatory School, brought together academics, educators, and English language teaching professionals to discuss sustainability and innovative approaches to education.

Supported by the Eaquals Member Event Fund 2026, the conference explored how sustainability can be integrated into educational practices from a variety of perspectives. Throughout the day, presentations and sessions addressed current topics such as socio-culturally responsive teaching, growth-oriented learning, the evolving role of teachers, diversity and inclusion, learner autonomy, and sustainable educational practices.

Speakers from different institutions and countries shared their research and professional experiences, presenting practical examples that support sustainable transformation in education. In addition to fostering knowledge exchange, the conference provided an important platform for professional development and strengthened international academic collaboration. The event also reflected ARUCAD's vision of promoting educational quality, internationalization, and innovative learning approaches aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

In her opening remarks, İnanç Uçaröz, Director of the ARUCAD English Preparatory School, emphasized that sustainable education is not only about conserving resources but also about adopting a human-centered approach that nurtures students' curiosity, supports teachers' professional development, and encourages continuous improvement in education. She also expressed her belief that the conference would contribute to the exchange of new ideas, the establishment of meaningful collaborations, and the development of sustainable solutions in education.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, ARUCAD Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Burcu Toker highlighted innovation and sustainability as two key elements shaping the future of education. She noted that the continuous development of teaching methods and learning environments plays a critical role in preparing students for future opportunities and challenges. She added that the conference programme, featuring topics such as digital learning, learner well-being, and sustainable educational approaches, offered valuable insights into the transformation of education. Prof. Dr. Toker described the event as a productive gathering that strengthened knowledge sharing and paved the way for new academic collaborations.

The conference keynote speaker, education specialist Sinem Atamsoy Koşar, delivered a presentation titled "Sustainable Education Begins with Sustainable Humans: Well-being, Leadership and Quality in Learning." She emphasized that human well-being lies at the heart of sustainable education. Referring to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the strong connection between Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) and Quality Education (SDG 4), she stated that high-quality education can only be achieved in learning environments where students, teachers, and educational leaders are supported physically, mentally, and emotionally. She explained that trust-based leadership, psychological safety, a culture of collaboration, and approaches that encourage continuous development form the foundation of sustainable education systems. She also stressed that quality in education is not a one-time objective but an ongoing, human-centered process. Furthermore, she noted that preventing educator burnout, supporting teacher well-being, and prioritizing meaningful learning experiences are essential components of a sustainable educational ecosystem. Zeynep Oğul Akın, ETS EMEA Academic Programs and ELT Manager, delivered the plenary session titled "Culture, Growth and Global Classrooms." Her presentation focused on the importance of intercultural learning environments, a growth-oriented mindset, and global classrooms in language education. She emphasized the need to prepare students from diverse cultural backgrounds for the future through inclusive learning experiences.

The conference organized by the ARUCAD English Preparatory School brought together education professionals from different countries on a shared platform, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experience while also contributing to the strengthening of international collaborations aimed at advancing sustainable and innovative approaches to education.
