Mail Art Workshop Held At ARUCAD

The two-day Mail Art workshop, held at Arkın University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD) on April 20-21, 2026, with the participation of artist Genco Gülan and under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pervin Kurçeren, Head of the Department of Plastic Arts, has concluded. The event, held at ARUCAD Art Space, brought together students from different disciplines in creative production processes focusing on sustainability and recycling.

During the workshop, participants worked on shareable, circulating, and reinterpretable art pieces by creating experimental works using paper, textiles, and everyday materials. Focusing on the collective and communicative nature of mail art, the event offered an experiential space highlighting interdisciplinary interaction and alternative production methods.

Speaking at the event, artist Genco Gülan stated, “This project brings together mail art with experimental production and international interaction. In the workshop, we worked with different techniques and methods based on the image of an island; we created collages, drawings, and productions on various surfaces. However, this process is not limited to production alone, but also involves communicating with individuals and institutions in different parts of the world through art. This project is about ideas circulating, transforming, and being reproduced through interaction. In fact, mail art exists precisely in this space of change and interaction.”

While works are being collected through an open call planned to be announced soon, it is envisioned that responses from works sent to different addresses within the scope of the workshop will also be included in the project. This production and interaction process is aimed to be completed with an exhibition planned to open at ARUCAD Art Space in September 2026. Genco Gülan emphasized that the practice of mail art is shaped by circulation and mutual interaction, and stated that the project will develop through this multi-layered structure.
