Webinar on “Fundamental Principles of Production and Lighting Design” Held at ARUCAD

The webinar Fundamental Principles of Production and Lighting Design, organized by the Acting Department at Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design (ARUCAD), was held with lighting, stage and projection designer Utku Kara and moderated by Sen. Ins. Şafak Ersözlü.

During the seminar, Utku Kara emphasized lighting design not only as a technical component of performance but also as a creative tool that shapes narrative, atmosphere and audience perception. Focusing on the balance of light and darkness, lighting angles, stage space, lighting types and the role of design decisions within production processes, Kara explored the relationship between lighting and stage aesthetics through live examples and three-dimensional stage modeling.

Highlighting the importance of a shared language between directors, designers and performers in production processes, Kara discussed lighting design as a dramaturgical element that not only provides visibility but also directs the audience’s gaze. The seminar examined the potential of light to construct narrative, define space and transform performative experience through both technical and creative decision-making.

Enriched by student questions and interactive discussion, the event offered both technical and conceptual perspectives on stage production and lighting design, providing participants with a comprehensive exchange of knowledge and experience in performance design.
