Library

The ARUCAD (Arkin Creative Arts and Design University) Library was established in 2017 with the aim of supporting the educational and research activities of universities and researchers in the region, and meeting the information and document needs throughout the entire teaching period. Our library collection includes rich resources in the fields of art, communication, design, philosophy, cinema, architecture, ceramics, and photography. The library aims to enhance the accumulated knowledge of academicians, students, and researchers on both the national and international levels.

In January 2022, the ARUCAD Library moved to its new building, which features study areas, soundproof glass-enclosed modern workspaces, and a ‘Digital Library’ laboratory. The resources in our library are classified and arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system and are made available to our readers through an open-shelf system.

Our printed resource count is 10,000, and this number continues to increase over time. Among the valuable works in our library collections are many rare editions, including a special edition from the 1860s prepared with the engraving works of the world-famous illustrator Gustave Doré for Cervantes’ Don Quixote. Our library also houses a special publication collection in various languages and subjects donated to ARUCAD Library by Prof. Dr. Latife Summerer.

In our ‘Digital Library’ laboratory, which houses 34 computers, we have active auxiliary databases affiliated with ULAKBİM-TUBİTAK (EKUAL) agreements. These databases provide access to millions of electronic resources such as books, articles, journals, theses, etc., contributing to your research by enabling online access.

Since its establishment, our library has continued to grow through book acquisitions, donations, and exchange programmes, and it continues to strive to provide the best service to its users in line with the programmes to be opened at our university.”

• Support from ARUCAD library staff is available for membership procedures.
• Faculty members, administrative and retired staff, students, and alumni of the university, as well as members of other universities and external researchers, may use the library under the rules set by the university.
• Members of other universities and external researchers, as well as ARUCAD alumni, may only use the resources available within the library according to the rules set by ARUCAD management. They are not allowed to borrow materials.
• Users must pass through the electronic security system in accordance with the rules when exiting the library and, if necessary, show their bags, publications, or materials to the staff. Necessary measures will be taken against those who attempt to remove materials without permission, and legal action may be pursued depending on the severity of the situation.
• Users are not allowed to take library resources outside the library without processing them through the library automation system. Otherwise, they will be subject to penalties and/or disciplinary action.
• Users are responsible for keeping their email addresses up to date. If a user does not notify the library of an email change, any notifications sent to the existing email address will be considered valid.
• ARUCAD library announces closing procedures and warnings 10 minutes before closing time.
Technical Services

Cataloging and Classification (Call Numbers)
The ARUCAD library is classified and organized according to the Library of Congress Classification System (Subject-Based Shelving System). It operates with an open-shelf system to serve its users.
The KOHA automation system is used as the library’s automation system.
The cataloging workflow diagram is attached for review.

Security Systems
The library collection is protected by an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) smart library magnetic security system. Security settings and material security procedures are managed by library staff.

Library Borrowing Procedures and Rules
ARUCAD users must follow specific rules when using library materials.

• Borrowing and return transactions can only be conducted by library staff at the ARUCAD Library.
• Borrowers are responsible for handling library materials with care and returning them by the due date.
• Users must present their university ID card or student certificate when borrowing materials. Borrowing, renewing, or performing any transaction using another member’s ID card is not allowed.
• Loan renewal can be done through the automation system starting three days before the due date. Overdue books and reserved materials cannot be renewed.
• Users with overdue materials cannot borrow new items or extend their loan period until the overdue materials are returned and any applicable late fees are paid.
• The library reserves the right to request the return of borrowed materials before the due date when necessary. Users must return the requested materials within one day. If the material is not returned within the specified time, the user’s borrowing privileges will be suspended for twice the duration of the delay.
• The library automation system automatically sends a reminder email to users three days before the due date. However, it is the user’s responsibility to track due dates. Failure to receive email notifications is not a valid excuse to avoid overdue penalties.
• Non-university members cannot borrow materials but may use resources within the library.
• The borrowing and return workflow diagram is attached for review.

The planning and acquisition of printed and electronic publications aim to support education and research at the university while also addressing users’ social and cultural needs. These resources are obtained through purchase, subscription, donation, and exchange. Collection development activities are carried out by a specialist librarian.

Purpose
This guideline has been prepared to facilitate Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services, allowing books and articles that are not available in the ARUCAD Library to be borrowed from other university and research libraries in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Scope
It outlines the procedures and rules that users must follow to benefit from this service.

Responsibility
The implementation of this guideline is the responsibility of the Vice Rectorate and the designated librarian.

Application

  • This service is available to the university’s academic staff, doctoral, and master’s students.
  • Requests must be submitted using an institutional email address ending in @arucad.edu.tr.
  • Users must provide their phone numbers in the ILL Request Form.
  • The ILL process follows the lending policies of the library from which the material is requested (e.g., the maximum number of books and loan duration).
  • Requests for journals, reference materials, theses, reserve unit books, and books labelled as “not for loan” are not accepted.
  • Books obtained through ILL are sent to ARUCAD Library by the lending institution, and users must collect them from the library. All photocopying and shipping fees associated with ILL are the responsibility of the requester.
  • Borrowed books must be returned to ARUCAD Library at least four days before the due date in their original condition.
  • If a book is returned late or lost, the lending library’s policies will apply.
  • Users wishing to benefit from this service must complete the ILL Form electronically and send it to library@arucad.edu.tr.

Additional Information

  • The delivery time of the requested book depends on the lending institution and postal duration.
  • By requesting an interlibrary loan, the user agrees to comply with copyright regulations and return the book within the specified period.
  • The timely return of ILL materials is crucial. Delays may lead to the lending library treating the issue at an institutional level rather than an individual one, potentially resulting in future loan requests being denied.
